Nelson Lane was reappointed representative from Stonewall-Hawthorne District to a four-year term on the School Board. The tax rate on Rappahannock real estate was established at 32 cents per $100 of fair market value. Dennis Wingfield was honored by the 1982 RCHS graduating class at its commencement exercises.
Pamela Rowe, a sixth grads teacher with a master’s degree in administration and supervision was hired as the county’s special services coordinator.

A tragic accident near Woodville killed eight-yearold Patricia Ann Brown and injured three other people when a tractor trailer slammed into the rear of car transporting three children home from Bible school. Plans were proceeding for the jail renovation. Sylvia Kreitler was appointed as superintendent of the Rappahannock Welfare Department.
The School Board voted to donate a right of way for the highway department to construct a turn lane at the high school. A job match service was started by Janice Moffett at the Rappahannock Welfare Department. Plans for renovating the Washington jail were given a preliminary ok from the State Department of Corrections. Testing showed that Rappahannock school students were on a par with state averages in their minimum competency exams.
