A Rappahannock News pre-election poll showed Davis and Robinson slightly ahead, with many voters undecided.

At its October meeting, the school board was notified of block grant funds for the gifted and talented program. These funds were to be used for the library fund, for career guidance, and for a three-week gifted and talented summer program.

A deer hunt scheduled at the Front Royal Conservation and Research Center was called off amid cries of outrage by conservationists. A congressional hearing was scheduled to determine the fate of the deer-ridden facility.

Spectra, a new school of design located in Flint Hill, held a series of open houses to introduce the school to the community.

Rappahannock County Voted for incumbent Republican J. Kenneth Robinson at the polls, and gave an edge to Democrat Richard Davis over Paul Trible.

Spectra School was granted a permit to offer practical instruction in architecture, design and construction at its site in Flint Hill.

Rappahannock County’s unemployment rate rose to 11 percent in September, according to a manpower bulletin from the Virginia Employment offices in Culpeper.
