involved. We aon’t extend that same courtesy to organizations, however. By far the biggest abuser was the Rappahannock County Library. Trinity Church ran a close second, judging from the stacks of paperback hymnals dumped next to the trailer. The Rappahannock Medical Center also deserves a spot on the list of guilty parties.
But everyone, groups and individuals alike, will have a chance to clean up their act. The Rappahannock News’ policing party was rushed to fit in between the holidays and beat the deadline for the removal of the almost empty trailer. Announced — except to the fire department — the day it was scheduled, it drew little participation. The only volunteers were Rappahannock News staffers, their kids and a couple of teenaged friends.
We believe the lack of support for the clean-up project was due primarily to lack of advance notice and publicity. So we’ve scheduled a second one for Saturday, January 15, beginning at 9 a.m.
We made a dent in the mess last week but there’s still plenty of trash to go around. The old trailer is full and n^eds its contents transferred to the new trailer. Piles of paper at the door of the new trailer must be pushed to the back and sides. Scraps blown along the fence line should be picked up.
The job will be easier this time, thanks to the steps donated by Bill Young.
We hope the community, particularly those who have abused the recycling center in the past, will show up on January 15. We’ll be there. We know who the litterbugs are and we’ll be watching for them.
