Jenkins, 49, was a deputy for seven years before winning election as sheriff in 1972. He served until 1976 when he was defeated by incumbent sheriff,, W. A. Buntin. jr*
In explaining his reasons for seeking the law enforcement post, Jenkins said that he feels he knows the people of Rappahannock and their activities and could put that knowledge to work as sheriff. Jenkins was born and raised in the county and has been self-employed in an auctioneering and sales business here for the past 25 years.
