The first hats have been tossed into the ring for November’s general elections.
Mark Wittl, former deputy with the Rappahannock County Sheriffs Department, and John Walker Jenkins, 11year veteran of law enforcement, announced their candidacies for sheriff this week.
“As a former deputy sheriff, I have been enthusiastically urged by a large number of county residents to seek the office,” Wittl said. "Currently, I’m completing degree requirements at the University of South Carolina so that I can provide the maximum effective leadership in law enforcement that our citizens demand and deserve.”
