In the religious competition the winner was the Reverend Jennings Hobson of the Episcopal Church. Hobson ran well ahead of Pope John Paul, who led the list of most admired men in 1980 in the Gallup survey, and was second in that study in 1981. The number of Catholics in Rappahannock, it was noted by outside consultants who were asked to evaluate our study, is small. Rev. Hobson also ran well ahead of Billy Graham who was second in the Gallup findings in both 1980 and 1981. Hobson also outscored Oral Roberts, whom a few irreligious persons in the county thought was a basketball coach, and also Jerry Falwell of Lynchburg, Virginia. The significant test point that distinguished Jennings Hobson was, for some, the fact that he regularly blesses the hounds at the opening ^of the hunt season.
