Jenny May Jenkins pleaded guilty to a welfare fraud misdemeanor in circuit court on Monday and was given a 12 months jail sentence.
Acting on the recommendation of Commonwealth’s Attorney Douglas Baumgardner, Judge Shore Robertson suspended the jail term on condition of her good behavior and compliance with Virginia laws for a one-year period. Baumgardner noted that the 48-year-old resident of Castleton had no prior criminal record. In addition, he said, she had made full restitution prior to the issuance of an indictment for the $200 or less in public assistance to which she was not entitled.
