As a combative tool against DUI, he proposed a selective enforcement program under which a trooper on patrol is given the sole mission of watching for drunk drivers during specified time periods in high risk areas. “I was able to convince my supervisors to try it,” Orftla said. “The program’s been long needed," he maintained, noting that in Fairfax it takes approximately 2Vi hours to book an individual on a drunk driving charge.
Despite his success with the State Police in Arlington and a recent offer of assignment to the governor’s detail, Orfila presented his resignation on Monday, effective February 7. “I love the county, I love the community and I love the personal contact (of law enforcement work here),” Orftla said, explaining his decision to seek election as; Rappahannock’s sheriff. “Asj a trooper, I gained a lot of experience but I constantly' thought about Rappahannock County. This is my golden opportunity to come back. I missed the county. I’m going to run no matter how many candidates enter the field.”
Orfila will be moving back to the Harris Hollow area as soon as possible and will be visiting the county one or two „times a week until his last day with the Stale Police. “There are a lot of people here who don’t know me. I have a lot of campaigning to do.”
