To be eligible for incentive payment on wool and unshorn lambs, be sure to turn in your sales receipts for wool and unshorn lambs sold during 1982. The Wool Program offers a federal support price of $1.37 a pound for wool. Payments are based on a percentage of each producer’s returns from sales. The percentage is the amount needed to raise the national average price received by farmers for shorn wool in 1982 up to the support level. Wool prices have fluctuated between 50 and 89 cents per pound through October, nationally.
