transportation, babysitting, anything we need to do to help somebody become employed,” Wilkins said. In addition, the welfare department may help subsidize child care for a short period after a full-time job is secured.
The new requirements do not entail investigative duties to determine if the ADC recipients are actually looking for employment. As part of their job search, welfare clients will take a short form for employers they've checked with to complete.
Kreitler reported that she will be notifying some local employers of the new program by letter. “I realize we’ll be putting a burden on businesses by sending people to them,” she said.
Currently, the county has a total of eight ADC recipients who will have to participate in order to retain their share of ADC grants. Kreitler projected that the new "program will eventually have ten to fifteen enrollees. "And we'll accept voluntary registrants,” Wilkins added. “It’s well and good if an ADC mother with a child under five wants to participate." “It’s a broad program and we’ll be beginning on a trial and error basis."
