“We have a great deal of freedom,” Kreitler agreed. ‘‘We’re asking the community to cooperate with us. If employers have jobs, before advertising, call us. Some of our people already have the necessary skills and others can learn,” she said, adding that the welfare office may even advertise particularly skilled clients for jobs.
Participating in this new program, whether as a client or an employer, will be mutually beneficial, according to the welfare supervisor. “They’ll be doing themselves and the community a service.” Kreitler said.
A fire command school for officers in volunteer fire companies will be held this weekend and next, January 15, 16, 22 and 23, at the Flint Hill firehouse. The 30-hour course will begin this Saturday at 8 a.m. with volunteers from Rappahannock and surrounding counties participating.
