Rapp once again set the speed of the game, Mike Leake’s offensive rebounding and off-balance shots by Robert Myers put RCHS out in front 22-18 early in the second period. Pops Aylor made one of the most outlandish shots of the year, taking the ball the entire length of the court and putting it in with an underhanded triple pump layup to increase the Panther lead, 26-22. Jeff Porter proved he was no slouch either when it came to Dr. J. shots. Two minutes later, he stole an inbounds pass and found himself behind the basket. Porter lofted the ball up into the air as he was falling backwards and all the ball hit was net. The ,heroics gave Rapp a 34-28 lead at half-time.
Mike Leake controlled the boards at both ends of the court, finishing the game with 25 caroms. That was five more than the whole General team combined. Lake’s efforts limited the attack and along with a stuff by team mate Clarence Pendleton, put lire under the Panthers who built a 54-38 third quarter lead.
Continuing to control the game, the Panthers coasted to a 70-55 victory.
Rappahannock had 45 rebounds, putting together one of their finer offensive rebounding games but it was their worst defensively. If not
