If the full Senate fails to include money in its bill, a joint House-Senate conference committee would take up the matter beginning February 18, according to the proposed budget timetable. The conferees are scheduled to submit their report to the House and Senate on February 23.
Miller said Tuesday he sees no problem in getting money for Rappahannock’s jail reimbursement in the budget. He said the House bill will likely be used as a basis for compromise when the conferees meet later this month. “I don’t see any problem,” said Miller after discussing the matter with Guest on Monday. “Obviously, I’ll be watching very closely to see if I can pick up any problems with it.”
Rappahannock Sheriff W.A. Buntin and Guest met with the Appropriations Committee’s Public Safety Subcommittee on January 28 to ask that the jail money be included in the budget.
