Education Hampered

In response to questioning by Eastham, Chappell identified some areas where space needs interfer with education at the high school. He singled out the “teachers on wheels” (teachers with no assigned work area) and the small size of the science labs as being specific constraints that hamper education. “Our lab time ends up being a teacher demonstration because that’s all we have room for,” he said.

“What about health...safety...discipline?” Eastham asked.

Chappell replied that he was concerned about the gym with two and a half feet between the end of the court and the wall. He added that the lack of adequate lunchroom space turned classrooms into eating areas with related cleaning problems.

Estabrook added that having no separate clinic are for sick children presents a health problem.
