But despite the Wakefield supervisor’s misgivings, the other three board members at Monday’s meeting—Latham, Wood and Clarence Baldwin—declined to give the judge any assurance that renovation work will proceed without state reimbursement.
Plans Approved
Before Robertson’s letter was read, Gilkey reported on the status of the jail proposal. Renovation plans drawn by Culpeper architect Hunter Spencer have been returned from Richmond by the Department of Corrections with only a few minor changes, he said. Spencer expects to take the blueprints back down to Richmond this Wednesday for final approval which will mean the project will be ready to go out on bids this Friday, Gilkey said.
Cost estimates on the renovation now stand at $163,000, based on the $81,500 reimbursement request before the General Assembly.
