On Wednesday, March 2, the Lions Club of Rappahannock will once again sponsor a Red Cross bloodmobile at the Baptist Church in Washington. The van will be there from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Ed Suslovic, Field Consultant for the American Red Cross, said that only 3 4 percent of all Americans give blood out of a possible 60 percent of the population that is eligible.

“In Europe, we find that as many as 20 percent of the people give blood,” Suslovic said. “We think that’s because they’ve seen firsthand work of the Red Cross and the desperate need for blood during war time.”

Suslovic said that the American Red Cross has determined that the main reason people don’t give blood is lack of education. In coming weeks before the bloodmobile arrives we will be working with the Lions Club and Ed Suslovic to provide some education and, we hope, add to the community support for this project.
