My guess is that the literary loan fund will remain frozen, as the Governor requests. But I would love to see this plan ‘costed out’ and our name put on a list for consideration as soon as the money is available.”
Nancy Reeve spoke of the space needs at the high school. “We must remember,” she said, “that we’re not just talking about space for children. The problem is just as much space for programs. I think this plan represents a practical use of space we have as well as providing additional space.”
Robert Eastham voiced his objections to proceeding with the plan. “I haven’t seen enough effort to re-use the space we have. Why is it always new bricks, new mortar?” Eastham said that, since the elementary school was not so crowded, consideration should be given to moving the eighth grade there.
“In 1983, our priority will be operating funds,” Eastham added “All our focus, our energy, our emphasis, must be on finding ways to operate. The funding is simply not there.”
Eastham said that he is not convinced that the need is there. “It would be nice to have more space, sure1,” he said. “It would be nice for me to have a MercedesBenz. But I don’t think about it.”
Eastham added that he is not totally opposed to the idea at some future, more appropriate time. “I would never say, ‘never’,” he said. “But at the time this comes up again I will not be with
