Feeding Prisoners
“I don’t know what to do about the food situation,” Woodward said, adding that k none of the county’s restaurantuers have responded to an advertisement soliciting bids on catering meals for prisoners. “I plan on going around and talking to them all in person this week.”
‘The Hampton Inn didn’t call you? They mentioned two or three months ago to me that they were interested (in catering the meals),” Supervisor Clarence Baldwin said.
“I’ll go out and talk to them,” Woodward volunteered. “We need (a restaurant) that’s open seven days a week. We have to serve prisoners three meals a day and two of those meals have to be hot.”
Supervisor Charles “Pete” Estes reported on an advertisement he’d seen in a jail supply publication for pre-prepared frozen meals. • “You store them in a small freezer that has a microwave oven on top. Then if you have two prisoners, you put two meals in the microwave," he explained, adding that he believed the frozen meals have the State Department of Corrections
