A recently released nationwide study by the Virginih Education Association (VEA) shows the state near the bottom of the list in current per pupil expenditures for public schools. Virginia ranked 30 among 50 states and the District of Columbia. The commonwealth clitrtfcbd two notches from 32 during the 1981-82 school year. Virginia rose from third to second place among the 12 southern states in educational spending, however.
The study called “Where Virginia Ranks” offers data on 125 different items' that relate to education—ranging from how many children are born in each state every year to the number of dentists, federal workers and physicians living in each area. While no combination of such measures can offer a
