Maybe the county supervisors can’t do anything to move matters along but apparently they’ve forgotten that Rappahannock has a friend in Richmond who can.
Last year, when the Department of Corrections cut money from its proposed state budget that was to go towards reimbursing Rappahannock for half the cost of its desparately needed jail renovation, Del. Raymond "Andy” Guest shepherded a bill through the General Assembly that brought $bl,500 to Rappahannock to pay for half the work required to raise the old lock-up to jail standards.
A member of State Crime Commission, Guest knows the ins and outs of the law enforcement beaurocracy, its regulations and funding procedures. The supervisors should seek his help in removing the last roadblock to utilization of the jail. Del. Guest will be in Richmond for the next three months while the General Assembly is in session. He’ll be busy but not too busy, we believe, to once again come to Rappahannock’s assistance.
