enforcement of the county ordinance, our officers would also use S 18.2-56.1 which makes it unlawful for any person to handle recklessly any firearm so as to endanger the life, limb or property of anyperson. This would take care of shooting on or across roads. At this point we were accused of instructing our game wardens not to enforce the laws. Later, the Attorney General’s office suggested that, in counties with local ordinances, we consult with the Commonwealth’s Attorneys to determine how the law's will be enforced. In counties without ordinances we will enforce S 18.2-286 and in some cases, S 18.2-56.1.
The decisions to take the aforementioned actions were made by the staff in an effort to do a better job of law enforcement. Neither Mr. Sutton nor any other members of the Commission participated in the discussions.
