Free Concert Series
The Shenandoah Brahms Festival continues on Sunday, Jan. 15, in Armstrong Auditorium at Shenandoah College and Conservatory in Winchester at 8:30 p.m. The second of the series of four concerts features soloists from the Conservatory faculty and student body. The Cantus Singers, a vocal ensemble of 40 women who perform music for treble voices, will also participate.
The concert is free and open to the public. The third and fourth concerts in the Shenandoah Brahms Festival series will be presented on February 5 and March 18.
Heart Association Meeting
A board meeting of the Rappahannock chapter of the American Heart Association is set for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18 at the Washington Baptist Church. The meeting is open to the public. All board members are especially requested to attend.
Film Festival Resumes
The Foreign Film Festival at Shenandoah College in Winchester will resume on Friday, Jan. 13, with the quadruple award-winning French suspense film, “The Wages of Fear.”
Considered one of the most suspenseful films ever made, “The Wages of Fear” launched the international career of Yves Montand, the perennial matinee idol, known before then only as a cabaret singer. It also established director Henri-Georges Clouzot as one of the world’s great masters of suspense cinema.
The film, with original French dialogue and English subtitles, will be shown at 7 p.m. in Goodson Hall, and there is no admission charge. Refreshments and a discussion follow the show, and the public is invited to attend.
