It was back and forth, up and down the court as the two teams ran neck and neck in the third quarter. But with the tally at 43-44, Mustangs up, George Mason was charged with a technical foul. Momentum changed to the Panthers’ side as RCHS closed the third quarter on top, 51-48. \
A Defensive Show
Rapp’s defense blew the game open early in the final period. An impressive—and effective—full court press forced turnovers and when the Mustangs managed to hold on to the ball long enough to shoot, Tommy Sisk, Tommy Jenkins and Clarence Pendleton were underneath the basket, just waiting to block the attempt. Meanw'hile, at the other end, Rob Brown and Pendleton went on a hot streak to stretch the difference to 63-52. The spark that Brown and Pendleton ignited burst into a flame when Jenkins slammed the ball homet.off a block from Pendleton and a pass from Sisk. The dunk broke the spirit of the Mustangs. From then on, it was all Rappahannock, as coach Daw son cleared his bench on the way to a 72-58 rout.
Dawson attributed the win to Rappahannock’s fourth quarter press which led to crucial turnovers.
