Brown Promoted
Todd Brown, senior man with two years as a deputy, was promoted to sargeant. John Facchina, who joined the department last fall, will stay on as a full time deputy as will veteran part timers Ray Jackson and Ed Streepy.
Woodward noted that Facchina was scheduled to attend the basic law enforcement session at Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Academy this month. “But they cancelled the school and now they tell me it’s set for early February. Then after John finishes, I’ll have to send Troy.”
Former Sheriff W.A. Buntin, a 30 year veteran of law enforcement, will continue wearing a badge as court baliff, a volunteer position. “That takes court duty off us and allows us more time for active police work,” noted Woodward.
John Mannion, corrections officer at the pre-renovation lock-up, will also stay on, giving the sheriffs department one experienced and trained jailer. “The jail won’t be open full time until after the three new correctional officers complete training in March,” Woodward said. “Until then, we’ll use the jail for a lock-up, holding prisoners overnight when Mannion is on duty.”
