Robert William Haase, of Washington, was cleared of possession of marijuana charges in the August 30 state police helicopter hunt after his lawyer moved Tuesday to strike the state’s evidence.
State trooper Daniel Argiro testified that police confiscated 3-4 marijuana plants from a property near Route 604 after pilot James Whitehurst spotted what appeared to be a small patch of marijuana growing near what is now Haase’s home. Argiro said two helicopters were flying over Rappahannock County at altitudes of approximately 500-800 feet as part of the Virginia Marijuana Eradication Program. A ground crew of about a dozen state ^ troopers and sheriff deputies were directed to the alleged Haase property by radio.
