THE COMPENSATION Board
in Richmond set salaries for local county officials. The Rappahannock County treasurer would make $4,800. the commissioner of revenue $4,200, the sheriff $4,100 and the commonwealth’s attorney $4,000. The suggested salaries were sent to the Board of Supervisors for approval. The board agreed to the amounts.
Mrs. Franees Foster was county chairman for the Marfch of Dimes campaign. She was helped in her appeal to “give till it, hurts” by district chairmen Mrs/Paul Miller, Mrs. A.C. Latham, Sr.. Mrs. P. Lee Thornton, Mrs. R.G. Quaintance, Jr., and Miss Nellie Johnson.
Anne Cannon was named “Queen of My Heart” at the high school Valentine party. The 9th grader received a big bunch of roses and a tiara.
Bradford’s of Flint Hill advertised a complete selection of Valentines priced from 15«-50«, packaged assortments of 29^-59? and Valentine boxes of candy at $1.19-$6.25. One could also take a sweetheart to see “Irma La Douce” starring Shirley MacLaine at Pitts’ Park Theater in Front Royal.
