Avian influenza, a respiratory disease, has been diagnosed in Virginia. This disease is not tranmissible to humans and hense poses no health risk to the public. However, the virus is highly contagious to poultry and can result in high poultry mortality and production losses.
Prevention measures include the following:
1) Strict sanitation.
2) Control human traffic around poultry and premises.
