Baptist Church in D. C. during the war. She was a glamourous secretary and the widower worked for a bakery, delivering bread to the White House. They remember their first date was to a church picnic with his three children. Her first impression? “I thought he was good looking,” (Now Frank laughs from the kitchen where he’s searching for cookies.) “And he had thre< children that seemed to nee< a mother desperately.”
“They say the way to ; man’s heart is through hi; stomach,” Frank adds ‘When we were first goinf together, she’d come over or Sundays and cook dinner for us and I really needed some body.”
Frank had two other girl friends but he married Doris on June 1, 1946. It was a small ceremony with his three children in attendance. Two years later they had a daughter of their own. Now there are 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren come May. Says Frank, “I’d thank the Lord for one thing. They are all healthy and beautiful children.”
“We’ve had a good time,” says Doris. “We’ve had our ups and downs, but we’re still together.”
