The Old Dominion Hounds staged their Spring Trail Ride on a sun-filled, breezy Saturday June 2. Billed as the Old Dominion Troll Ride, 70 or more riders started out from Colline, the Grlean (arm of Mr. and Mrs. William D. Doeller.
Halfway along the route of the ride, after a smart, trot along a sparkling' branch of the Rappahannock River, the horses came upon a huge pasture of waving orchard grass rising to a longempty Chas. Adams house atop a knoll.
Their ears pricked, their necks arched, and a few assumed levade positions as they heard the rolling chords and unfamiliar melodies of Mousorgshy, Berlioz and Grieg.
To this accompaniment, horses and riders, trembling alike, moved slowly up to the strange sight of grotesque creatures peering from empty windows and cavorting before a disheveled porch. These odd ones had long, tangled hair, wierd hats, conspicuous tails and flapping rags for clothes. A sign on the house read, “Blue Ridge Trolls wellcome troll-riders.”
