perceived as desirable characteristics of today’s masculine and feminine sex-types. • Mrs. Polyien’s study showed androgynous people are astonishingly more satisfied with life. They have closer family ties, increased cohesiveness, successful adaptability, and more democratic relationships which irfe critical in overcoming stress.

Androgynous families are flexible. They share power and allow, even encourage, family members to speak their minds.

The study found that living in a rural or urban setting or one’s economic standing had nothing to do with life satisfaction. It also supports the theory that sociological factors, not biological* ones, explain the differences in men’s and women’s behavior.

This satisfaction of androgynous people with life suggests that society should •top trying to channel people into sex-type roles. That the traditional strengths of men and women should be blended to result in stronger individuals and families.
