Last September, Jenkins lost 13 pounds, and closed in on an initial goal—to weigh less than 200. “It was easy at first; I thought I’d get it all off quickly,” she said.
Tough Task
At 199 pounds, Jenkins said she felt like a new person. However, she already was beginning to realize that her real goal—to weigh 123 on her 34th birthday June 7—would be difficult, if not impossible, to reach.
After losing at least 10 pounds the remaining months in 1983, Jenkins experienced gains of Vi and ¥< pounds during January. Her total loss that month—5 Vi pounds.
“I was very upset. I’d been doing so well,” she recalled. I asked myself, ‘Did I eat something I shouldn’t have. . .Did I exercise enough?’ ”
By January, the midwinter blahs had set in. It was that month, Jenkins recalled, that she gave in to a “bad attack.”
“It was during the Super Bowl,” she said. They had potato chips and cookies, and I felt I just had to have some popcorn. So, I made it, sat down and ate it and felt guilty afterward. . .I’m only human.”
