On Friday afternoon, June 1, 1984, at precisely ten minutes past one, the 1984 Convention of the Republican Party of Virginia was called to order. The Rappahannock County seven-member delegation was headed by Jesse Pond, the Republican county chairman, and included Marjorie Exton, Jo Frantz, Paul Frantz, David Konick, John Marocchi, and Chris Parrish.
Attending the convention as an observer, as I did, and not as a delegate, proved to be a quite pleasant experience. At no time did a vote take place in which my single vote could have changed a result, and only once, not on a major issue, in which I would have wanted it to.
What a “major'’ issue is, of course, depends a good deal upon who is doing the defining; generally however, all would agree that the moat important item on our agenda was the nomination of a candidate for the United States Senate. John W.
