Rappahannock’s planning commissioners and members of the Board of Supervisors spent more than two hours August 31 during joint work session reviewing criticisms of the county’s proposed zoning ordinance. When they broke to allow time for public input, a group of citizens calling themselves the Rappahannock County Public Action Committee asked county officials to drop the 210-page revision of the 1973 Zoning Ordinance and start anew.
“This (proposed zoning ordinance) is absolutely inappropriate for Rappahannock. It will never be acceptable to the overwhelming nuyority of the people of Rappahannock,” said Robert W. Eastham of Flint Hill, a spokesman for the public action committee. Forrest Whorton of Castleton and others in attendance joined Eastham’s charge: Whorton presented county officials with a 300-signature petition calling for tabling of the ordinance.
