The 25th Annual Rappahannock Labor Day Mixed Doubles Handicapped Whistle Cup Tournament was held for the 19th year Sunday and Monday.
The tournament winners on Monday were Teresa McLawhom of Flint Hill and Doug Baumgardner of Sperryville, who won 16 games. Stuart Henry of Castleton and Carolyn Henry of Warrenton won 12 games to earn runner-up honors. The finals were held at the Rappahannock Recreational Park.
Preliminary games were held on Sunday at the private courts of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kilpatrick, Mr. and Mrs. Ike Parrish, Judge and Mrs. Rayner Snead, and Mr. and Mrs. Fanning Baumgardner.
“The tournament is done for fun by the people in the area who love tennis,” Ruth JBaumgardner, one of the organizers sud.
Mrs. Marta Tholand and Judge Snead started the tournament in 1965.
