“If he were running again, I wouldn’t be running—and neither would Slaughter. And I suspect Costello wouldn’t run either.

criticism that retiring Congressman J. Kenneth Robinson (R-7,Va.)—the man Republicans hope Slaughter will replace—casts “automatic” votes for the president.
“My opinion is Kenneth Robinson makes up his own mind,” Slaughter said. He added he believes Robinson had voted the president’s will in most instances because of the “fundamentals” they share.
Slaughter agreed with the Democratic opponent on one point: “Ability to get the job done” will be an important issue when voters go to the polls in November.
“I believe I have the ability...I have the legislative experience,” Slaughter, who has 20 years experience in the General Assembly, said/ “Congress is a legislative body, and legislative experience is the most relevant you can have.”
