TEACH CHILDREN ABOUT MONEY: If your children thfafc "money grows on trees,” they may need lessons in money management. An allowance will help themleam to plan their spending. It should be sufficient to cover necessary expenses plus a small amount for discretionary purposes. Most children are ready to handle an allowance between the agee of six and eight.

Most experts agree that money earned for choree should be considered separate from an allowance and that gifts of cash are the child’s to keep. It is helpful, however, to discuss with a child how such windfalls should be spent.
