Benefit Dance
A benefit dance will be held on Saturday, September 15 from 9 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Front Royal Elk Lodge. Music will be provided by the Four Score and there will be a charge of $10 per couple. Proceeds will benefit the Chester Gap Ladies Auxiliary. The dance is open to the public.
Ladies Auxiliary Dinner Set
The Flint Hill Ladies Auxiliary will have a dinner following the Rappahannock House Tour on Saturday, October 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the fire hall.
Burke Family Reunion
The descendants of the late Brew and Atha Burke will hold their annual family reunion on Sunday, September 16 at the Rappahannock Park on Route 211 near Washington beginning at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon. “Family members are asked to attend, bring a covered dish and eiyoy the day,” said a spokesperson.
DAR Shows Interest In
Statue Of Liberty Restoration
The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter NSDAR is keenly interested in seeing that the 97 or 98 year old Statue of Liberty is fully restored by its 100th birthday. This Statue was completed in 1883 and officially presented to the United States in 1884.
Information concerning this restoration will be presented by Mrs. Woodruff Kearns when she speaks on the topic “Honoring the Statue of Liberty” at the meeting to be held at the Culpeper United Methodist Church Tuesday, September 11 at 2 p.m.
Hostesses are Mrs. Richard W. Billett and Mrs. James Weaver. Mrs. Dale Metzinger, Regent, will conduct this the first meeting of the Chapter’s year.
Jaycee Women Sponsor Trip
The Culpeper Jaycee Women are sponsoring a shopping trip to the Burlington, North Carolina outlets on Saturday, November 3. The cost per person will be $21. This does not include meals but juice and doughnuts will be provided on the trip down.

School Night For Scouting
Parents and boys are invited to the Rappahannock Elementary School on Wednesday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m. to join Tiger Cubs and Cub Scouts. Tiger Cubs are boys age 7 and Cub Scouts are boys, ages 8, 9 and 10.
The scouting night is sponsored by the Shenandoah Area Council Boy Scouts of America. There are presently two packs in Rappahannock, Pack 50 in Amissville and Pack 123 in Washington.
Aria And Craft Festival
Plans for the 13th annual Arts and Crafts Festival to be held on Saturday, October 6 are being made by the Culpeper Extension Homemakers Clubs. The festival will be held at the Culpeper Enterprises in the Homemakers building on Route 29 South from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Area craft folks interested in demonstrating or selling are invited to join the homemakers.
