Make another landfill site in Rappahannock.
The Harrisonburg site has agreed to accept the county’s burnable trash. An unnamed neighboring county has consented to accept the the trash for the next two years.
Mr. Lane said, “I think this board has been irresponsible in not acting onihe. offer.”
“It’s going to come back at us in court,” he stated.
He was also concerned that the board was negotiating with the owner of the current landfill site in order to build another adjacent to the existing site. The waste committee’s report had advised against this concept because of potential pollution and regulatory problems.
Supervisor Pete Estes said that Mr. Lane had never presented the board with cost projections. He stated that he felt Mr. Lane’s “assault” was “unfair to members of the board. ”
“I won’t vote without knowing what it costs,” he said.
