As the Owls, Wakefield School’s varsity basketball team, enters the final stretch of its schedule, the team is attempting to overcome a mid-season slump. With the addition of Wakefield’s two losses this week ■Against Woodberry Forest and St. James, the Owls have lost five of their last seven games, lowering Wakefield’s record to 6-7.
In the first game of the week, Wakefield hosted Woodberry For- ' est, a team that Wakefield had defeated by 32 points earlier in the ; season. However, this encounter with the Woodberry team was nothing like the first. Despite a slow start by Woodberry, Wakefield was . unable to hold on to a nine1 y>omt « lead, losing in overtime 51-45. ;
As the game began, Wakefield ; had little trouble with the younger - Woodberry team. And, by means of - a second quarter surge where Wake- I field scored 14 points, the Owls held : leads of nine points before closing : the half with 21-14 advantage.
However, with the start of the second half, Woodberry scored eight ■ straight points to take a 22-21 lead. By the period’s end, Wakefield had : been outscored to 20-13 in the third quarter, which tied the game at 34 all.
