The beautiful Christmas greens which add such charm and warmth to homes during the " holiday season can prove an irre~ sistible lure to children and pets as well. Unfortunately, some of the greenery can be harmful if in*• gested, the Rappahannock County Extension Service warns.
Among the greens which should be kept out of the reach of '■ children and away from pets, es« pecially curious and playful kit- tens and puppies, are: - Holly: The red berries, per. feet size for plucking and eating, : can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Mistletoe: Traditionally the ■r plant underneath which a holiday > kiss may be given or received, its white berries are much prettier looked at than eaten. They cause acute stomach and intestinal disorders. •* * Poinsettia: The leaves and > flowers may be dangerous if t eaten - they tend to irritate the J mouth and stomach, sometimes •resulting in vomiting and diarrhea.
