Yew: The leaves, bark and twigs of this member of the evergreen family can be toxic, as can the seeds within the berries. When swallowed the parts of this plant cause breathing difficulty, trembling and vomiting.
Jerusalem Cherry: All parts of this plant contain toxic substances. They adversely affect the heart and may cause irregularities in the heartbeat.
Children who chew or swallow plants which may cause toxic reactions should be seen by their family doctor or emergency room physician as soon as possible. If possible, a sample of the plant or berry which was eaten should be taken to the doctor with the child.
