“Although the Sheriffs Department conducted the investigation,T Capt. Streapy said, “we would have had no concrete leads to pursue were t it not for the concerned citizen who ^ noticed suspicious activity and reported it to our dispatcher. The tip was checked out by the deputies on duty and the resulting investigation produced two arrests. ”
Citing pending legal proceedings, Capt. Streapy declined to reveal any additional details about the investigation or the crimes. He noted, however, that most of the stolen items had been recovered by the Sheriffs Department last Thursday night. ;
Smoot and Ramey appeared in General District Court on Tuesdays where their cases were continued until Jan. 5. _■
“This is just another example,” Sheriff Woodward said, “of how the cooperation of residents and law enforcement can bring these cases ton successful conclusion.”
“Again,” Capt. Streapy said, “we request that anyone who sees something which they think is out of pla& or suspicious please call the Sheriff^ Department. You don’t have to give your name if you don’t want to. We will investigate it — we will check k out.”
Sheriff Woodward added that the winter months are traditionally A time when the department receives reports of weekend homes being broken into — often long after the culprits have disappeared. He urged residents who live in the county year-round to keep an eye on theijr neighbors’ property, and to notify the Sheriffs Department if they notice activity around the area when no one should be there. ,
