Walter Reid and Acrey Dodson have returned to their homes after being patients at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton. Both are doing nicely. Mrs. Alice Grigsby of Flint Hill, Miss Wendy Hawkins and Glenn Dodson of Manassas and Mrs. Barbara Settle were weekend guests of .Mr. and Mrs. Acrey Dodson. Roger Hitt has been on the sick list for the past several days. We wish him a speedy recovery.
‘Trees’ class
at Montpelier
“Trees in Winter,” a four-week class, will be taught at Montpelier by Theodore G. Scott beginning Thursday, Jan. 28, and each successive Thursday through Feb. 18 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The charge for the course is $25.
Participants will have the opportunity to hike Montpelier’s 2,700 acres during the field trips on Feb. 6, 13 and 20 from 9 a.m. until noon. Montpelier has been described by landscape architects as a “tree museum” as the property contains a number of unusual specimen trees, including the Cedars of Lebanon, thought to have been planted by President J ames Madison.
The course, which focuses on tree identification, is taught in the winter when the trees are not obscured by their leaves. “The Tree Identification Book,” the required text for the class, can be purchased at the time of registration.
Mr. Scott, a noted Orange naturalist, serves on the board of the Piedmont Environmental Council and volunteers as an environmental sciences teacher in Orange, Clarke and Culpeper school districts.
