The year just passed has seen important decisions made in Rappahannock County, with some completed and others still in process. There has been far from, universal agreement on most of the stories reported below, but all have affected the residents of the county to some degree.
1. The landfill: As has been the case for, it seems, forever, Rappahannock’s landfill saga once again steps to the front of the year’s most important stories. When the year began, the Board of Supervisors was considering the report submitted by its advisory committee, which studied a number of properties for sale around the county. By spring, however, the board had focussed on the Stover property, located on Rt. 639 east of Amissville.
With the news that the property was under serious consideration, the residents of Amissville and surrounding areas organized opposition to the proposal. A preliminary survey by the county’s engineering firm turned up no serious impediments to using the Stover site, and the plan went to Richmond for approval.
