Once; counseling is begun, the abuse vie-; tims and the rest of the family must; insist that the abuser continue withj the therapy. Sometimes continuing counseling is made a part of a recon-' ciliation agreement.
It’s important as well that the victims seek help also. Abuse causes serious . psychological: damagfej, which, particular.y in Children, may not manifest itself until some tinjp after the actual abuse occurs. 1 •
If the intervention and counselling are unsuccessful, or if help is not sought at all, most experts agr4e that the cycle of abuse will continue and get worse. The victim needs to contact a professional who has experience dealing with such situations'. It is not the sort of situation whidfi can be worked out among the family members. •)
