Hobson. “He trains the younger members, helps the other, less-experienced Emergency Medical Technicians and familiarizes them with how they can be of assistance during an ALS call.” The result, as anyone who has seen the team at work can attest, is a smooth, efficient operation which has resulted in the saving of lives.
That jump to ALS, Mr. Leggett continued, was a tremendous accomplishment. “With distances so great, and time so important in medical emergencies,” being able to provide advanced medical care in the field, far from the hospital emergency room, has saved the lives of Rappahannock County residents.
The “golden hour,” the first, most critical hour after iiyury or illness, is often spent in getting the patient to the hospital, Mr. Leggett explained. If care similar to. that given by ER physicians can be administered in the field, within that “golden hour,” the patient’s chances of survival increase dramatically, he said.
“He’s a real asset,” Mr. Fisher agreed, “one of the most communityminded people I know. He’s totally linselfish, really dedicated to the community, and more than willing to help.”
