Once the new gym is usable, the old gymnasium will be converted to an auditorium and an expansion of the cafeteria. Mr. Chappell projected the end of the school year, “perhaps into the summer,” as a completion date for that phase of the project. The expansion should be finished sometime during the summer, he said.
3. School enrollment: Though the apparent increase in student enrollment surfaced late in the year, if it proves to be a trend it will have an impact on the county’s schools for years to come.
Superintendent Gangel told the supervisors at their December meeting that the tentative figures reverse a 10-year trend of declining enrollment in the county’s schools. And, as might be expected, the increase is heaviest in the lower grades, indicating that the children of the county’s younger families are beginning to reach school age.
