Also new this year, Mrs. Johnson said, is a procedure whereby the ballots will be tallied by an independent person not affiliated with the pageant.
Both these changes, she said, are being made to address concerns about fairness voiced by some of the participants.
This year, the pageant will move from its long-time site at the elementary school to the new auditorium at Rappahannock County High School. “I sincerely thank Mrs. Piper and all the people involved at the elementary school for their wonderful support and gracious help in the past,” Mrs. Johnson said.
As always, the contest will be open to all Rappahannock County residents between the ages of two and 21. The mother/daughter division, added last year, proved to be popular and will return this year.
And, Mrs. Johnson added, the proceeds from the event are returned to the community in the form of the services provided by the Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad. All proceeds are used to purchase medical equipment and supplies, maintanence and repairs of vehicles and equipment, and other costs incurred
