that a correction must be made within 3 years, 3 months, and 15 days of the year the error occurred, but there are some exceptions. A person can call the toll-free number shown on the PEBES for assistance in correcting the records.
Because the earnings record is so important for Social Security benefits, a person should check his or her Social Security earnings record at least every three years to make sure that earnings are properly recorded. This will help insure a correct benefit amount in the future.
Checking the earnings record is particularly important if a person changes jobs frequently or works at more than one job, if he or she works in very small businesses, or is selfemployed, Mr. Hundley said.
To get a PEBES, a person should request and complete Form SSA7004, Request for Earnings and Benefit Estimate Statement, by writing to: Consumer Information Center, Department 55, Pueblo, Colorado 81009, or by calling Social Security.
