Mrs. Bowen emphasized the ease in which a home can become a foster home. “There are no hard and fast qualifications [such as age] necessary to become a foster parent,” she said. "We check to ensure there is no previous criminal record or record of child abuse or neglect.
“The really important things that are needed are qualities of kindness, compassion, tolerance, humor and the ability to accept a child where he is and help him move forward at his own pace."
Mrs. Bowen said it is "miraculous” to see the changes in children that can take place quickly in a loving foster home.
